Is it just me...

...or is anyone else here as amused as I am over the recent surge in statements from various current or former members of the SGA production staff in which said staff members claim that criticism about the show is coming from a vocal "minority," and that the silent "majority" are happy with the way things are?

One would think that they believe if they say it enough times, it'll become true. How very naïve.

hmm? I have not heard about this at all. What statements are you referring to? As far as I know they've always pulled the vocal minority vs. silent happy majority crap. That's all that is ... crap. :D

There was a new article posted about online fan comments in general; several shows, including Stargate, were mentioned. And Darth Mallozzi spewed the "vocal minority" line a night or two ago.

Yeah, it's definitely crap. Talk about biting the hand that feeds them... ;P

"Vocal minority". Pfft. My friend who has only seen SGA a few times ("casual viewer") thinks the descisions TPTB have been making are utter crap. Given the feedback regarding the TV Guide blog post, most of those people don't seem to be crazy fans. My wanting to save Carson and Elizabeth aside, I am not a crazy fan. The issues with TPTB extend far beyond that.

I'm vocal, but I doubt I am a minority. That's like saying, ie "the majority of people are okay with abuse, because only a small minority go online and rant about it so they must be the only ones." :/

I just completed a certificate course (in Wine Studies at the University of California, Irvine, so that should tell you about the kinds of people I had in my classes!). I met a few others who watch Stargate but are not at all into the fandom side of things as we are. They don't look at fan sites, don't read fanfiction, don't go to conventions. They just watch the show. And they were just disappointed by the changes made in the past year as the "vocal minority."

For every one of us who speaks out, how many are out there who feel the same way as we do but don't speak out because they either aren't involved in fandom or don't even realize it exists?
